Killing Them Safely Debuts In Theaters
In November the feature documentary Killing Them Safely premiered theatrically to glowing reviews, as well as some controversy.
Currently sitting at 89% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, Vulture Magazine called the film one of the year’s best documentaries. The Los Angeles Times called it “unsettling” and “couldn’t be timelier”, RogerEbert.com called it “required viewing”. The film was also positively written up in the New York Times, The Village Voice, Vice, The Intercept and more.
The film also received a second wave of publicity after it was discovered Taser company employees fraudulently bombarded review sites with negative 1 star reviews. The story was published by Filmmaker Magazine, Forbes, Gizmodo, and others.

The Thing In The Apartment Premieres On Eli Roth’s Crypt TV
Just in time for Halloween, The Thing in the Apartment premiered at ScreamFest and then to its permanent home on Eli Roth’s online horror channel Crypt TV. Directed by John Ross, the film was also featured as a Short of the Week, and received nice converge on Dread Central, Ain’t It Cool News, and Horror Film Central.
Scrap Force Sound Design
October also saw the release of the addictively fun iOS game Scrap Force, which I had the enjoyment of doing all the sound effects work for. With hundreds of characters and a variety of off the wall weapons (and aliens), it was a pleasure to create. Currently ranked 5 stars on iTunes!
Other Project News
Western received two Cinema Eye Nominations, including Best Score. To be on any Cinema Eye list is an honor for nonfiction films, and this is the third Ross Brothers movie I’ve mixed to be nominated. The awards ceremony will be held early January 2016. The film also was released on VOD and can be found on iTunes and Amazon, and Paste Magazine listed it as one of the best documentaries of the year.
The Bad Boy of Bowling won a Special Jury Prize at Doc NYC, the largest documentary film festival in the U.S.
County Fair Texas played in the Austin Film Festival, as well as the Dallas Video Fest and Indie Memphis, and also received a beautiful new hand painted poster.
In advertising work, I mixed promotional spots for Christie’s Auction House and UC Irvine, as well as an ad series for Shortel Networks called ‘A Day In the Life’.
Upcoming Work
I’m currently mixing the first season of Brian Knappenberger’s new upcoming documentary TV series, which I’ll be able to post more about when it gets closer to airing at the start of the new year.
I also started sound editing the beautiful new documentary from Jeff Malmberg and Chris Shellen, the directors of the fantastic film Marwencol. I’m also excited that the project was newly chosen to receive Sundance Documentary Fund support.
I’ve got lots to look forward to next year as well, with documentary films featuring David Byrne and Suzanne Ciani both on the 2016 slate, so lots of music and sound will be in the air! For now once I wrap my current projects I’m looking forward to a nice little holiday and resting these ears and eyes for a bit with food and family.
