Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show

It was a pleasure to be the Supervising Sound Editor and Re-Recording Mixer for this new HBO Max original series. At times funny, at times heartbreaking, and always something incredibly unique, it was a creative joy to help craft the sound and mix of this series.

Critically acclaimed, with wonderful reviews from Indiewire, Variety, Consequence, The New Yorker and many more, the 8-episode show is currently releasing on a weekly schedule on HBO.

The Antisocial Network

Also releasing in April is the feature documentary The Antisocial Network on Netflix. From the filmmakers who made Feels Good Man, this film is another journey into the far reaches and dark underbellies of the internet, this time looking at the formation and rise of QAnon from obscure online message boards to capital-storming reality.

Told in a very stylized way, it was once again a fascinating challenge to try and give voice to the internet, give a presence to online spaces, and create the sounds for everything from memes to animated internet monsters on soul-devouring rampages. Part wacky, part terrifying, I consider both this film and Feels Good Man as essential crash courses for any kind of online literacy.

Butterfly in the Sky Theatrical Release

Teaming up with AMC Theaters, Butterfly in the Sky will have a theatrical release this month in select cities across the country. I loved working on this film, which lovingly tells the tale of how the TV series Reading Rainbow came into being. Featuring interviews with LeVar Burton, the show’s creators, as well as grown ups who appeared as readers and book reviewers in the series when they were children, the film is lovely and beautiful and made me so happy the whole time I worked on it.

Maintaining a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score, this film will also be coming to the small screens next month.

BitConned Debuts on Netflix

Adding to the roster of recent projects newly released into the world, BitConned had its debut on Netflix. A true-crime documentary, this film follows the tale of three cryptocurrency scammers who managed to skim millions from unsuspecting investors as they bankrolled an enourmous, and fraudulent, empire.

From the filmmakers who made The Legend of Cocaine Island and The Pez Outlaw, this film follows a similar style of larger-than-life recreations and stylized storytelling. It was a joy to sound edit and mix.

Indigo Girls: It’s Only Life After All

I had the pleasure of coming on board to do some additional re-recording mixing for the Indigo Girls documentary It’s Only Life After All after its debut at Sundance. Having worked with director Alexandria Bombach on her previous film On Her Shoulders, she asked if I could help prepare the film for its theatrical and streaming premieres. It was a joy to dive into the world and music of this film and help prepare the sounds for its theatrical release in April!

Additional Projects Roundup

It was wonderful times to re-team up with Bill Ross and David Byrne once again to mix a special making-of documentary with A24 for the 40th Anniversary blu-ray release of Stop Making Sense.

Meanwhile in awards news, The Saint of Second Chances nominated for a Sports Emmy for Outstanding Long Documentary

And lastly the short film about the Moroccan sport of tbourida The Bardia premiered as part of National Geographic’s Short Film Showcase as it made its way onto the platform.
