Two World Premieres in Sundance
Two feature films I sound edited and mixed premiered at this years Sundance Film Festival, which is always fun and exciting.
Nobody Speak: Trials of the Free Press, directed by Brian Knappenberger, played to sold out crowds and was acquired by Netflix by the festival’s end.
The second feature was Bending the Arc, directed by Kief Davidson and Pedro Kos, which told the story of Paul Farmer, Jim Yong Kim, and Ophelia Dahl and their amazing organization Partners in Health. Executive Produced by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, the film received glowing reviews, with the Hollywood Reporter saying it ‘soars to the highest documentary dimension’.
Two World Premieres in SXSW
I’m also excited to announce that two additional feature mixes will have their festival premiere at SXSW in March!
Spettacolo, directed by Jeff Malmberg and Chris Shellen, was one of the opening seven films announced for this year’s festival, and is a beautiful documentary set in the hills of Tuscany about a town has turned their own lives into theater and those trying to keep the art alive.
A Life in Waves, directed by Brett Whitcomb, is a documentary exploring the life and innovations of electronic music pioneer and composer Suzanne Ciani, and is chock full of musical richness and sonic exploration. Written about in Spin, Synthtopia, and more, Suzanne was also SXSW’s showcase artist of the day.
Nobody Speak: Trials of the Free Press is also playing at SXSW as it continues its festival run after Sundance.
This also marks my seventh consecutive year of projects being in SXSW, which is something I am very proud of.
Parque Central debuts at Big Sky
And rounding out all the new festival premieres to start this year, the feature documentary Parque Central had its premiere at the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival. Another film I loved sound editing and mixing, with minimal dialogue and a ton of experiential world building. Filmmaker Magazine has a piece on the film here.
Also playing at this year’s Big Sky festival was a retrospective for director Daniel Junge, featuring three films I mixed for him: Being Evel, Beyond the Brick: A Lego Brickumentary, and Fight Church.
Internet Project Roundup
I mixed a trio of documentary featurettes for the film Patriots Day, showcasing some of the real life heroes telling their stories in their own words. They can be found online at the following links, and will be on the Patriots Day DVD upon release. Chapter 1: Dr. Kalish, Chapter 2: Dun Meng, Chapter 3: Sgt Pugliese.

And lastly, I recently finished my second collaboration with Roja Gashtili and Julia Lerman on their short film mix that will be a part of the Refinery 29 Shatterbox Anthology. I’ll post more about it upon release, but it was an honor to be invited to be a part of this process and team.
Contemporary Color Wins Cinema Eye
And last but not least, Contemporary Color won the 2017 Cinema Eye Award for Outstanding Achievement in Original Music Score. I’m very proud of the entire mix and soundtrack for the film, and am also excited for it to hit theaters on March 1st! The trailer can be found here.
