Primetime Television Specials for FOX and PBS
I had the pleasure of working on a fun primetime 1-hr special broadcast for FOX Sports. Titled US Open Epics: Tiger & Rocco, the documentary looked back at one of the greatest extended tournament matches in US Open golf history between Tiger Woods and Rocco Mediate. Directed and Produced by Bryan and Amy Storkel, who I recently had the pleasure of working with on White Tide: The Legend of Culebra, it was a blast sound editing and mixing this film and watching it play on the flagship FOX channel during Sunday primetime in advance of the US Open!

I also had the joy of working on another broadcast 1-hr documentary piece, this time for PBS, as part of their Emmy award-winning Artbound series. Called The Art of Basketweaving, this program looked at the culture and history of basketweaving amongst Native American tribes along the West Coast. Directed by Corbett Jones and made by the people at The Range, it was a wonderful project to be a part of.

All Three Sundance Movies Hit Theaters this Fall
Coming off of a spectacular Sundance ’18, all three features I mixed that played there will be opening theatrically this Fall.
Shirkers was acquired by Netflix as a Netflix Original, releasing theatrically nationwide in October and on their streaming platform!
In the meantime its film festival tour continues, playing at Hot Docs, Full Frame, Sheffield, AFI Docs, San Francisco, Dallas, Nantucket, Montclair, Doc Tel Avive, the Gimli Film Festival, BAM Cinemafest, and others. It’ll also playing at the forever wonderful Rooftop Films in September, and more film festivals upcoming around the world ahead of its theatrical premiere.

On Her Shoulders was picked up by Oscilloscope, and will debut theatrically later in the Fall once it concludes its worldwide film festival run.
It has also been playing in a whirlwind of festivals, AFI Docs, Ashland, Telluride MountainFilm, IFF Boston, Sarasota, Dallas, Seattle, Nashville, Maryland, Doclands, Montclair, Melbourne, and many others.
The film also won the Scotiabank Docs for Schools student choice award at Hot Docs, and finished in the Top-5 for the Audience Favorite award out of a field of 246 films.

Meanwhile Bisbee ’17 will have a special screening in Arizona on the centennial anniversary of the original Bisbee deportations, before beginning its theatrical run at the Film Forum in New York September 5th and then rolling onward across the country. A trailer can be seen here.
It’s also been playing in film festivals around the world, including AFI Docs, BAM CinemaFest, San Francisco, Sarasota, Doc Tel Aviv, Cleveland, Nantucket, Oak Cliff, New Zealand, and many others.

New Short Film Projects
I recently completed mixing work on Sara Newens’ beautiful short Footprint, a purely observational portrait of how visitors engage with the World Trade Center Memorial. Sara reached out to me in the months before filming to discuss strategy of how to best capture audio for the delicate film, and I fell in love with the project and am happy to have worked on the sound editorial and mix.
The film has played AFI Docs, IFF Boston, the Nashville Film Festival, Florida Film Festival, Maryland Film Festival and many others, it won the Audience Award at the Denver Film Society RSC Shorts Fest, and the History Award at the Dallas International Film Festival. The film will release this fall as a New York Times Op-Doc.

And lastly I joined forces once again with John Ross and the team behind Crypt TV’s The Thing in the Apartment for another fun horror short, this time for FOX Digital Studios and a film called Gregory. Playing as part of their Bite Size Horror anthology, the film premiered at CanneSeries, and will play at LA Shorts Fest, Hollyshorts, and ScreamFest in upcoming months.

Field Adventures and Upcoming News
I’ve got some very exciting project news up ahead on the horizon, as well as some new film festival debuts ahead I look forward to being able to announce. I also recently completed a fun field recording trip out in the Midwest where I got to try out some new equipment and some new Ambisonics recording techniques in some pretty unique environments. I may not be awarded any style points for the fashions I had to wear, but it’s always fun to go out into the world and experience new things and capture new sounds. Balancing time between being in the studio behind the console and being out in the world is always a healthy mix. And new gear and new ways to record in surround are always things I enjoy. With luck there will hopefully be more recording travels abroad in the near future as well!
