Victim/Suspect Debuts at Sundance
I’m very proud that Victim/Suspect had its debut in-competition at the Sundance Film Festival. Directed by Nancy Schwartzman, the film follows a Center for Investigative Reporting journalist as she uncovers and tracks a string of sexual assault cases nationwide where police agencies falsely arrest victims after they report their assaults. It is a difficult and often times upsetting film, but I’m proud that could launch from such a large and visible stage as Sundance.
This premiere also continues my tenth consecutive year of films at Sundance, having sound edited or mixed 14 Sundance premieres over that span, and the snowy grounds of Park City continues to be such a meaningful place to me.
The film will next play at CPH:Dox, and will premiere on Netflix May 23rd.
Wildcat rolls out in Theaters and on Amazon Prime streaming
Wildcat celebrated the holidays with a nationwide theatrical rollout, followed by its streaming debut on Amazon Prime December 30th. I loved working on this film, which included traveling deep into the remote Peruvian rainforest to live and record immersive soundscapes on-location, as well as mixing in Atmos back home on the dubstage.
The film was met with rousing reviews and emotional screenings, and was named as a National Board of Review Top 5 Documentary.
And lastly I love how Amazon (the company) treats binaural downmixes of Atmos content so viewers with headphones at home can experience the wondrous and three-dimensional soundscapes of the Amazon (the rainforest!) and the cacophony of life and sounds contained therein.
Upcoming Work and Studio Upgrades
In February I also had the joy of working once again with some of my most long-time directors the Ross Brothers, revisiting a project from over a decade ago, as we remastered River, their 3hr epic journey down the Mississippi. The film will be shown in exhibition alongside their entire filmography at the Centre Pompedou in Paris next month.
In addition I wrapped up another wonderfully stylized and sound-driven feature that has yet-to-debut and I can’t wait to talk about it more on here once it does!
And last but not least, I recently renovated and re-tuned the entire studio space and upgraded my monitoring to a new Genelec Smart Active Monitoring 7.1.4 immersive setup. Powered by Genelec’s ‘The Ones’ line at its heart, I’ve been loving the more dimensional soundscape their triple-concentric design provides, especially in tandem with Dolby’s Atmos format. They have a smaller footprint than my previous monitors, but they pack a bigger punch!
