The Mission Premieres at Telluride

The Mission had its debut recently at the Telluride Film Festival. Directed by Amanda McBaine and Jesse Moss (Boys State), the film follows the life and story of John Chau, a 26-year-old American missionary who was killed in an attempt to contact one of the last indigenous communities on the planet still trying to live in isolation.

The film is a complex one, both morally and soundscape wise. And I was lucky to have an amazing team to work with to bring the details of the story and the footage into vibrant life, including some beautifully rendered animation sequences. An incredibly powerful and moving film, I’m happy to see the positive early reviews, and that it was received so strongly at Telluride, and I look forward to its US theatrical release in October by National Geographic films.

The Saint of Second Chances Debuts on Netflix

Also debuting this month on Netflix is the wonderful feature documentary The Saint of Second Chances. Initially premiering at Tribeca earlier this summer, this film is a wonderful and wacky look at the life of minor league baseball owner and legend Mike Veeck.

Directed by Morgan Neville (20 Feet From Stardom) and Jeff Malmberg (Marwencol), the film follows the rise and fall and unlikely rise again of Mike Veeck. I loved how this film was creatively stylized, and how it allowed us to go big and bold with the sound design throughout. Featuring narration by Jeff Daniels, and starring Charlie Day in the recreation sequences, I loved everything about this project and our mix.

Emmy Nominations for Wildcat and the Pez Outlaw

I’m so happy to see Wildcat get nominated for three News and Documentary Emmy awards, for Direction, Outstanding Nature Documentary, and Music Score. And The Pez Outlaw also scored a News and Documentary Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lighting Direction/Scenic Design.
